How to Care for your Sweaters: and when to let the experts take over

It’s Christmas in Kansas City and that usually means we’re either in our parkas or in shorts and a t-shirt but that’s Midwest living for ya! Typically sweater weather starts about mid October here in the mid west though, which got us thinking it’s probably time for those sweaters to get a little refresh if you haven’t already!

Now there are definitely some DIY cleaning techniques out there but coming from our official Laundry know it all there are some at home solutions you can totally use and some you should never use. These rules are also good to follow for other items that have the same fabric content. If all else fails READ THE TAG! There’s a really good reason clothing manufacturers take the time to add those cleaning instructions!

Cotton:

How often: Once every 2-5 wears unless they are stained or have been exposed to smoke.

If they simply need refreshing hand or machine wash in warm or cold water. Select the permanent press cycle to help prevent wrinkles and shrinking or lay flat to dry.

If they are stained your safest best is to send them to the experts. If it’s an organic stain rub a small amount of detergent directly on the stain and let garment soak for at least 30 minutes in warm water. If the stain persist after washing what ever you do do not machine dry the garment. This will only set the stain.
